Under the supervision of the Community Development Director, the Building Official performs major rehabilitation inspections, work write-ups for the Community Development Block Grant program, and performs skilled building and construction inspections to assure compliance with city codes. The Building Official works with the Community Development Director in the inspection, work write-ups, and cost estimating of Community Development Block Grant projects.

The Building Official is also responsible for:
  • Checking and reviewing plans for conformance to city codes and recommends issuance or denial of permits
  • Inspects residential and commercial construction in progress for compliance with city codes and ordinances
  • Works with Audrain County Health Unit in identifying city codes violations
  • Performs fire inspections for Mexico Public Safety Department
  • Performs final inspections for compliance before occupancy or use for residential and commercial construction
  • Reviews zoning changes, subdivision plans, additional use permits and special projects


Building Permits
During this time of year, many people start working on Home Repair Projects, or installing sheds and swimming pools. Please check with the Building Official to see if a permit is needed and to make sure that you have a Licensed and Insured Contractor.


Swimming Pools
Any swimming pool within the city limits of Mexico, Missouri with a depth capacity of twenty-four (24) inches or greater, must have a pool permit issued prior to installation.  Please contact the Building Official for more details.
